Education in Eswatini includes pre-school, primary, secondary and high schools, for general education and training GETand universities and colleges at tertiary level. Pre-school education is usually for children five years or younger.

Information gathered by this publication indicates that a consensus to phase out these exams was made a decade ago, but the ministry had not found an alternative assessment.
We will find alternative examinations when we phase the external ones because we do not want to let down Emaswati. Swaziland Principals Association SWAPA President Welcome Mhlanga, on the other hand, said consultations should continue and benchmarking should be concluded before the phasing out of the exams.
The minister cannot just phase the external examinations and leave a vacuum. As per the Education Sector Policy ofthe ministry of education already planned to phase out Grade Seven external examinations and instead introduce check points in Grades Four and Seven. Additionally, the ministry had proposed summative assessment examinations in Forms Three and Five, respectively.
However, the phasing out of these exams did not happen. As per the document, all the participants agreed that JC should be phased out and replaced with an assessment that would be like a check point. Another reason was the cost of these external exams that have become such a burden to parents as the examiners, invigilators and markers have to be paid by the parents and guardians. The ministry of education justified the delay in phasing out these external exams, citing the need to ensure quality and standardised assessment.
She said they would now issue a notice informing the nation of the results. The reason for doing so may be linked to the decision to do away with the external examination for both EPC and JC.
